At times, we may look across multiple users to identify problems or resolve disputes, and in particular we may examine your personal information to identify users using multiple user IDs or aliases. We may compare and review your personal information for errors, omissions and for accuracy.

You agree that we may use personal information about you to improve our marketing and promotional efforts, to analyze site usage and effectiveness, improve our content and product offerings, and customize the Site's content, layout, and services. These uses improve the Site and better tailor it to meet your needs, so as to provide you with a smooth, efficient, safe and customized experience while using the Site. You agree that we may aggregate (i.e. gather up data across some or all users) your personal information with the personal information of other users of the Site to analyze Site usage patterns and capture information about the user population.
You agree that we may use your personal information to contact you and deliver information to you that, in some cases, are targeted to your interests, such as targeted banner advertisements, administrative notices, product offerings, and communications relevant to your use of the Site. We will send you strictly service-related announcements on rare occasions when it is necessary to do so. For instance, if our service is temporarily suspended for maintenance, we might send you an email. By accepting the End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy, you expressly agree to receive this information. If you do not wish to receive these communications, we encourage you to opt out of the receipt of certain communications.

5.0 Information Sharing and Disclosure.

STL does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or as described herein. These companies may use your personal information to help STL communicate with you about offers from STL and our marketing partners. However, these companies do not have any independent right to share this information. In the “My Account - Alerts” area of the Site, you can choose whether or not to receive information from these companies. The following describes some of the ways that your personal information may be disclosed in the normal scope of business to provide our services.

5.1 Advertiser

We also aggregate personal information and disclose such information in a non-personally identifiable manner to advertisers, business partners and other third parties for their marketing and promotional purposes. However, in these situations, we do not disclose to these entities any information that could be used to identify you personally. You should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit on the Community portion of the Site can be read, collected, or used by other users of this forum, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. STL is not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in this forum.

5.3 Learning Center and Business Services

There are a number of separate services offered by third parties that we refer to as external service providers that may be complementary to your use of the Site (e.g. creative services, web site development, legal and tax advice). If you choose to use these separate services, disclose information to the external service providers, and/or grant them permission to collect information about you, then their use of your information is governed by their privacy policy. We do not disclose your personal information to external service providers unless you provide your explicit consent. With your consent we may provide some of your personal information to the external service provider offering such services, for your convenience. To prevent our disclosure of your personal information to an external service provider, you can decline such consent or simply not use their services. Because we do not control the privacy practices of these third parties, you should evaluate their practices before deciding to use their services.

5.4 Internal Service Providers for Our Operations

We may use third parties that we refer to as internal service providers to facilitate or outsource one or more aspects of the business, product and service operations that we provide to you (e.g., search technology, customer support) and therefore we may provide some of your personal information directly to these internal service providers. These internal service providers' are subject to confidentiality agreements with us and other legal restrictions that prohibit their use of the information we provide them for any other purpose except to facilitate the specific outsourced STL related operation, unless you have explicitly agreed or given your prior permission to them for additional uses. In some instances, the internal service provider may collect information directly from you (such as for STL surveys). In these cases, you will be notified of the involvement of the internal service provider, and all additional information you provide them and their additional uses will be strictly up to you. If you provide additional information to an internal service provider directly, then their use of your personal information is governed by their applicable privacy policy.

5.5 Legal Requests

We cooperate with law enforcement inquiries, as well as other third parties to enforce laws, such as: intellectual property rights, fraud and other rights, to help protect you and the STL community from bad actors. Therefore, in response to a verified request by law enforcement or other government officials relating to a criminal investigation or alleged illegal activity, we can (and you authorize us to) disclose your name, city, state, telephone number, email address, userID, and Site activity history without a subpoena. Without limiting the above, we will not otherwise disclose your personal information to law enforcement or other government officials without a subpoena, court order or substantially similar legal procedure, except when we believe in good faith that the disclosure of information is necessary to: prevent imminent physical harm or financial loss; or report suspected illegal activity.
Due to the existing regulatory environment, we cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other personal information will never be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Privacy Policy. By way of example (without limiting the foregoing), we may be forced to disclose personal information to the government or third parties under certain circumstances, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications, or users may abuse or misuse your personal information that they collect from the Site. Therefore, although we use industry standard practices to protect your privacy, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personal information or private communications will always remain private.

6.0 Account Information and Data.

As is true of most Web Sites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data. STL uses this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the Site, to track users’ movements around the Site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
We do link this automatically-collected data to personally identifiable information. IP addresses are tied to personally identifiable information to monitor that licensing agreements are maintained.

7.0 Cookies.

We use data collection devices such as "cookies" on certain pages of the Site to help analyze our web page flow, measure promotional effectiveness, and promote trust and safety. "Cookies" are small files placed on your hard drive that assist us in providing our services. STL offers certain features that are only available through the use of a "cookie". We also use cookies to allow you to enter your password less frequently during a session. Cookies can also help us provide information that is targeted to your interests. Standing alone, cookies do not identify you personally. They merely recognize your browser. You are always free to decline our cookies if your browser permits, although in that case you may not be able to use certain features on the Site and you may be required to reenter your password more frequently during a session.
Cookies come in two flavors: session and persistent-based. Session cookies exist only during an online session. They disappear from your computer when you close your browser software or turn off your computer. Persistent cookies remain on your computer after you've closed your browser or turned off your computer. They include such information as a unique identifier for your browser.

STL uses session cookies containing encrypted information to allow the system to uniquely identify you while you are logged in. This information allows STL to process your online transactions and requests. Session cookies help us make sure you are who you say you are after you've logged in and are required in order to use the STL application. STL uses persistent cookies, that only STL can read and use, to identify the fact that you are a STL customer or prior STL Website visitor (whatever the case may be). We are especially careful about the security and confidentiality of the information stored in persistent cookies.
Additionally, you may encounter "cookies" or other similar devices on certain pages of the Site that are placed by third parties. For example, some of our business partners (e.g., advertisers) use cookies on our Site. We have no access to or control over these cookies. This privacy statement covers the use of cookies by STL only and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers or suppliers.

8.0 Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs).

We may employ (and our third party advertising and service partners may employ) a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. Web Beacons/Web Bugs), that help us better manage content on our Site by informing us what content is effective. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of Web users. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on Web pages and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. We tie the information gathered by clear gifs to our customers’ personally identifiable information.
We use clear gifs in our HTML-based emails to let us know which emails recipients have opened. This allows us to gauge the effectiveness of certain communications and the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. If you would like, you may opt-out of these emails.

9.0 Links to Other Sites.

The Learning Center, Business Services and other parts of the Site contains links to other websites that are not owned or controlled by STL. Please be aware that STL is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other websites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our Site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. If you choose to share your user ID and password or your personal information with third parties, you are responsible for all actions taken with your account and therefore you should review that third party's privacy policy. If you lose control of your password, you may lose substantial control over your personal information and may be subject to legally binding actions taken on your behalf. We offer you the ability to automatically review and change the information you submit to us by logging into the Site and entering in the new information yourself. You can change your user Id, email address, contact information, financial information, shipping information and user preferences by going to your My Account – Setup – Account page of the Site. You must promptly update your personal information if it changes or is inaccurate. You will be notified via notice on our Web Site for 30 days of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.

15.0 Changes in this Privacy Policy.

We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the amended terms on the Site. All amended terms shall automatically be effective 30 days after they are initially posted on the Site. STL offers you the opportunity to “opt-out” of having your personally identifiable information used.
